For over 35 years, Aeon has been a leader in creating and preserving affordable housing in Minnesota. What started as a bold vision to provide safe, stable homes has grown into a lasting commitment that has impacted thousands of lives. Through innovation, perseverance, and strong community partnerships, we continue to expand our reach—ensuring that more individuals and families have a place to call home.

Since 1986, Aeon has worked to solve Minnesota’s housing crisis by developing and sustaining quality, affordable homes. What began with a single apartment building has grown into a nonprofit organization that provides over 5,885 affordable homes across the Twin Cities region.

  • 1986: Aeon was founded to replace 350 apartment homes that were demolished to build the Minneapolis Convention Center. Our first development, Buri Manor, provided 38 homes for low-wage workers.
  • 1990s-2000s: Rapid expansion of Aeon’s portfolio, focusing on acquiring and preserving existing housing to protect affordability.
  • 2010s: New development projects and deeper community partnerships strengthened Aeon’s impact.
  • Today: Aeon provides safe, stable homes to thousands of individuals and continues to advocate for solutions to Minnesota’s housing crisis.
