Richard has called Minneapolis home since 1985, and after 20 years without leaving the city, he finally got the chance to explore somewhere new. Recently, he joined other residents and members of Aeon’s Resident Connections team for a special trip to Stillwater.
The group boarded a big tour bus for a riverboat cruise on the St. Croix River. For Richard, the timing couldn’t have been better—the trip happened to fall on his 69th birthday. “This birthday was a special one,” Richard shared. “I usually don’t get to do a whole lot to celebrate.”
From start to finish, the day was full of joy. Richard was the first one on the bus, eager to begin the adventure. On the boat, he spent time chatting with his good friend Louis and Buddy, a Resident Connections staff member he meets with weekly. The two often catch up, sort through mail, and check in on how things are going.
During the cruise, Richard enjoyed meeting new people, savoring good food, and taking in the sights of Stillwater—his first visit to the charming river town. The group also stopped to explore antique shops and wander through downtown.
Buddy shared, “This was a very big day for Richard.”
For Richard, it was more than a trip—it was a milestone, a celebration, and a reminder that connection and care can make every day a little brighter.
