With deep gratitude for his exceptional leadership, the Aeon Board of Directors announces that Dr. Eric Anthony Johnson has made the personal decision to step down as President and CEO of Aeon, effective May 2, 2025.
Dr. Johnson has led Aeon through a pivotal chapter in its history— one marked by both immense challenges and remarkable resilience. In the face of a deeply complex affordable housing landscape, he guided the organization with vision, clarity, and purpose.
His tenure has set Aeon on a path of transformation, marked by a drive for operational discipline and a commitment to treating Aeon residents with dignity and respect. Dr. Johnson’s strategic approach challenged the status quo, sought creative solutions to affordable housing financing, and strengthened Aeon’s ability to ensure quality housing remains available for those who need it most.
This transformational work is both challenging and deeply meaningful. Dr. Johnson approached it with fortitude, agility, and grace, and we are proud of the progress made under his guidance. His leadership has laid a strong foundation for Aeon’s future — one that continues to embrace boldness, collaboration, and meaningful solutions to housing insecurity.
Dr. Johnson has also been a thoughtful and important voice in the affordable housing conversation — and we look forward to him remaining so.
To ensure stability during this transition, Caroline Horton, Aeon’s longtime Chief Financial Officer, will serve as interim CEO. Her deep institutional knowledge and leadership will provide continuity as the Aeon Board begins a comprehensive search for the organization’s next CEO.
We are grateful for Dr. Johnson’s contributions and look forward to sharing more about the search process in the coming weeks. Please join us in thanking him for his service and leadership.
